We went out for a nice meal at a restaurant called “Cabana Las Lilas.” The food was really good. The wine list was more like a large book than a list with more wines that you could shake a stick at. It was the most expensive restaurant we have eaten at since leaving home. They charged a 21 peso ($7.00 CDN) per person cover charge which allowed for a tray of anti-pasta, a small tray of desserts, and some lemon cello after dinner drinks. The bill, including tip was $660 pesos or about $250.00 CDN. We are in Buenos Aires – one of the world’s largest cities – so we can expect to pay more.
On Tuesday, we did some sightseeing. We went back to the National Museum of Fine Arts, avoiding the pick-pockets this time. We then wandered over to Recoleta Cemetery. I don’t know if the pictures can truly give a true representation of the place. Crypt after crypt, each holding the remains of several family members were built along little streets. We made the obligatory visit to Eva Perron’s crypt. You could look into most crypts, and see the coffins just lying there. The cemetery is still used to bury the rich and famous of Argentina. At the cemetery was a geocache site, so we were able to drop off one of the geocache coins we brought we us, and pick up one that has travelled from Europe. We will drop that one off in Australia.
I also visited the Canadian Embassy yesterday to try to determine if Argentina is a country that LBMX may eventually expand into. I didn’t get any immediate answers, but the Trade Commissioner I talked to will do some research and get back to me. She had not ever heard of a Buying Group before, and doubts that they exist in Argentina.
We are off exploring again today.
