Kangaroo Island

We have spent the last two days on Kangaroo Island, which is Australia's third largest island located just 140 kms south of Adelaide. We came here to see the wildlife and have not been disappointed. We cancelled regular school and spent our time doing "field trips". We are staying in Kingscote, the largest town on the Island.

The first day we travelled the length of the island, about 100 kms to Flinders Chase and today we headed north to place called Paul's Place. We have seen Pelicans being fed, Fairy Penquins in their burrows at night, Australian Sea Lions up close on the beach, New Zealand Fur Seals, some "Remarkable Rocks", a cave, fed Kangaroos and Emus (along with a bunch of other animals), held snakes and Koalas, watch a sheep being sheered and walked on some beaches.

I have attached lots of pictures as they "say a thousand words". The video attached was of a juvenile sea line playing with some sponge he found on the beach. He has such as expression you can't help but smile watching him.

Speaking of smiling, or not, I tried the famous Australian "Veggie Mite." Chris snapped a picture of my expression..you guess if I liked it or not.

We are off to Adelaide again tomorrow and then on to Port Douglas on Saturday morning.

Website Purpose

This website will be used to track the Gray Family Travel in 2009. Ian, Chris and their two children, Thomas and Katelyn are going to spend a year travelling together. This trip has been a goal of the family for years, and as Ian turned 50 in January 2009, they are making it happen.

Thomas and Kate will be required to keep up with their education as they travel. Both have laptops and will stay in contact with friends back in London. Given the length of the trip, the number to countries to be visited has been restricted to allow for a more in-depth experince in the countries visited.

In most locations, a vacation home has been rented. This form of accomadation is not only reasonably priced, but will allow for home cooking as opposed to continually dining in restuarants.
